Our Story

So you want to know a little bit about The Blue Toad, huh? After many years of filing away ideas conceived by traveling the world and stopping in as many pubs and fun family hang outs as possible… the vision for The Blue Toad was finally put on paper.

But why the The Blue Toad you ask? Well… when all these years of traveling came to an end and it was time to settle in and find Mr. and Mrs. Toad a place to live and raise their Toadlets, they decided on the Blue Ridge Mountains here in Afton, VA. Hence, the BLUE in The Blue Toad.

Now wait a minute… That explains the BLUE… What is this Toad business all about?

Well, the story of the nickname Toad is a funny one. After wondering why everyone in his 3,500 person hometown of Scottsville, NY called him Toad, he found out it was all because of a simple handwriting error made by Momma Toad years ago. Toad’s real name is Todd… So when Todd’s Mother was filling out the paperwork for his birth certificate, that first “d” in his name came up a little short, leaving the Doctors and the great state of New York thinking the first name of this new little fella was Toad. And there you have it… from pre-school all the way through College at Purdue University, the name Toad has stuck.

So instead of fighting the name any longer, Todd decided to embrace the American way and exploit it – have some fun, make a cool logo, incorporate the look and feel of the great area he lives in, and show his customers a great time!

And that’s how The Blue Toad was born.
